Freelance proofreader
My role as your freelance proofreader is to read your document just prior to publication. I will complete a final quality check.
As you might expect, I will focus on the words. Any changes I recommend to you will be minor as your document will potentially have passed through many experts’ hands before it comes to me; your writer, your editor, your designer and potentially your executive or management group will have seen it, worked on it and approved it.
As your freelance proofreader I will:
- correct typos and misspellings
- apply appropriate punctuation
- make minor adjustments to grammar
- identify text inconsistencies, marking them for your attention and investigation or correcting them if the solution is obvious
- ensure your text complies with your corporate style guide (if you have one).
I will not:
- write or add new content (unless you ask me to work as your freelance writer)
- restructure or rewrite your document (unless you ask me to work as your freelance editor)
- meddle with your document’s formatting, layout or design (I’ll leave that to your desktop publisher or graphic designer – for me it’s all about the words!).
As your freelance proofreader, I’m very good at doing what’s asked of me. This means if you only want me to check for typos and misspellings because you’re confident that everything else is in order, that’s exactly what I’ll do. Alternatively, if you want to add some extras to the list of things to check (such as telephone numbers and web references) feel free to do that too.
Visit my writing services page and you’ll find a list of ‘things’ I can proofread. Visit my portfolio page and you’ll find some of the ‘things’ I’ve proofed.
I am able to proofread your document on screen (depending on your file format) or in print.
