Freelance editor
My role as your freelance editor is to improve your written communication. I will read with the needs of your audience in mind, adapting your work as I go, ensuring the finished product is clear, concise and consistent.
The document you provide me should be complete; all of your stakeholders should have been consulted and have contributed their content, views and ideas before it comes to me. However, the document will still have some room for improvement.
As your freelance editor I will:
- add and remove words (rewrite) to achieve clarity and avoid redundancy (this includes ensuring your work uses a single ‘voice’)
- restructure to improve flow and enhance understanding
- proofread your document (as your freelance editor I’m also your freelance proofreader so I’ll check spelling, punctuation, grammar and text inconsistencies)
- ensure your text complies with your corporate style guide (if you have one).
I will not:
- write or add new content (unless you ask me to work as your freelance writer)
- meddle with your document’s formatting, layout or design (I’ll leave that to your desktop publisher or graphic designer – I’ll stick with what I know!).
As your freelance editor, you can of course ask me to take on extra editing tasks. Perhaps there’s an outdated name or phrase that needs to be replaced, there could be some statistics to verify or some web references, telephone numbers and names that need to be checked. Whether you need me to do a little or a lot, I will tailor my editing to suit your needs.
Visit my writing services page and you’ll find a list of ‘things’ I can edit. Visit my portfolio page and you’ll find some of the ‘things’ I’ve edited.
I am able to edit your document on screen (depending on your file format) or in print.
