The Word Shop is mostly just me – Gina Smith. I am a freelance writer, freelance editor and freelance proofreader and I work from my home office in one of Brisbane’s leafy inner-city suburbs.

I established The Word Shop in 1990 when I was fresh out of university – I had just completed a Bachelor of Business Communication (Advertising) at the Queensland University of Technology.

In the beginning The Word Shop was my part-time interest while I worked as an advertising copywriter in two creative agencies and then a radio station, a scriptwriter for an educational resource publisher, and a marketing and communication specialist in a number of different Queensland Government departments.

I have also had a children’s story published by Macmillan Education Australia.

These days, in fact since 2006, The Word Shop has been my full-time passion. This means I spend my days working as a professional writer, editor and proofreader – in fact I am a copywriter, creative writer, business writer, online writer, content writer, SEO writer, story writer, scriptwriter, freelance journalist and copy editor – and more.

During my 21 years in business I’ve worked with clients from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne as well as from other places around Australia and in New Zealand, Singapore and Europe – big brand companies, small operators, medium-sized businesses, well-known publishers and government departments – you’ll find some of them listed in my portfolio along with some examples of my copywriting, editing and proofreading.

I’m one of the lucky few to make a living doing what I truly love to do. I put my heart and soul into my writing, editing and proofreading; I go the extra mile to give my clients that something special that helps them to get their message through.
